We all have a story. What we may not realize is the significance of our story. There is only one you, and no one else has lived your particular life. When we share our experiences, we restore our sense of belonging and identity.
This is the passion and conviction behind Oleg Lougheed’s Overcoming Odds, a non-profit organization that travels the United States, creating events that showcase the stories of adoptees and foster members. Overcoming Odds is on a mission to ensure that every orphan and adoptee can live the life they have always dreamed of, despite their hardships and misfortunes.
Last month, I had the privilege to attend Overcoming Odds, “Survive To Thrive” event in Los Angeles. The day was full of laughter, connection and tears, as each speaker shared their story of how they overcame their childhood hardships to live a fulfilling life. I was inspired by each speaker’s story and struck by their courage to tell it. By the end of the day, the feeling in the room was not of sorrow or sadness but of triumph and victory.
If you haven’t attended an Overcoming Odds event, I suggest that you get yourself to one. You can find the next Overcoming Odds event at OvercomingOdds.today.
